Sonoma State Announces Lacrosse Team Captains for 2014

Sonoma State has announced their captains for the upcoming 2014 season. Four junior classmen, Connor Kuehnle, Ed Meyer, Sam Willon, and Blane Sando have been picked to lead the Seawolves into battle this year, with hopes of returning to the National Championship Tournament for the second straight year.

Kuehnle is a junior midfielder from San Marcos High School down in San Marcos, Ca. Connor is a do it all midfielder and contributes in many different ways that don't always show up in the box score. Kuehnle is going to be the primary leader on offense this year for the Seawolves and has recorded 13 goals and 7 assists in his young career. When asked about being a captain, Connor said, "It means a lot being a leader on and off the field, and being a voice to the community."

Meyer is a long stick midfielder from Gunn High School in Palo Alto, CA. Ed has a great knack for ground balls, which have helped the Seawolves win possessions at the faceoff X and create more opportunities on offense. Meyer's hard work and determination have led to a great deal of success on and off the field. Ed will continue to lead and bolster a veteran defense in 2014.

Willon is from La Costa Canyon in Carlsbad, CA and enters his third season with the Seawolves as a close defenseman. Sam's lacrosse IQ has helped him become not only one of the best defenders on the team but one of the best in the WCLL. Along with his IQ, Willon's stick skills and determination to be the best have helped him succeed on and off the field. Last year, Sam earned Honorable Mention All WCLL defense.

The last captain is attackman Blane Sando. Blane is from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Ca. After graduating two seniors on attack last season, Sando looks to lead the attack unit this year and help them reach their offensive success from a year ago. Last season, Sando tallied 19 goals and added 7 assists. Blane's hard work off the field has really assisted him in becoming one of Sonoma's top players.

"We are excited to have these players stepping into the role of captain this year," said head coach Panchito Ojeda. "All are incredible young men who will lead by example with their work ethic on an off the field."
