Robert Morris Slate Has Colonials on the Road for Nine Games

Moon Township, Pa. Nov. 6, 2013 The Robert Morris lacrosse team, under the direction of third-year head coach Andrew McMinn, has announced its 2014 schedule, a slate that sees the Colonials play just five of 14 regular season games at home.

Robert Morris will begin 2014 regular season play in Louisville, Ky. as it faces Bellarmine on Feb. 15. This will be the third-straight season in which the Colonials have opened up their regular season with the Knights, and the seventh-straight year that Bellarmine is on RMU's schedule.

The Colonials will end their February slate with a home contest against Detroit on Feb. 23. RMU hosted the Titans last season and came out with a 9-5 victory.

The beginning of March will see a rematch with the Drexel Dragons in the City of Brotherly Love. Last season, the then-No. 14/18 Dragons squeaked out a 13-12 win over the Colonials thanks to a last-minute goal.

RMU begins Northeast Conference (NEC) play a week later on March 9 as new NEC associate member St. Joseph's comes to Joe Walton Stadium. The Hawks were a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for the past two seasons a conference that the Colonials are familiar with as they were CAA members during 2006-09.

The Colonials return to the road for two games in the neighboring Empire State. RMU will play a mid-week, non-conference match with Siena on March 12, and then get back into NEC play on March 15 with a game against Hobart. The Statesmen, like St. Joseph's, became associate members of the NEC this past July. The Colonials have played Hobart the last three seasons and carry a two-game winning streak into their first conference match-up.

RMU ends their non-conference home slate on March 22 with a match-up against Jacksonville. The Colonials have played the Dolphins three of the last four seasons (2010-11, 2013) and have come out victorious every time.

The end of March will feature two more NEC contests for RMU. The Colonials will travel to Emmittsburg, Md. for a March 25 meeting with Mount St. Mary's, and then return home to take on Sacred Heart on March 29. RMU split with these two teams last season, as they defeated the Mountaineers, 12-11, but fell to the Pioneers, 14-13.

The Colonials then hit the road for three games to start their April slate. RMU will first make its first trip to College Park, Md. to take on the Terrapins on April 2. Maryland lost to Cornell, 16-8, last season in the NCAA Tournament, and was the national runner-up in 2011 and 2012. Robert Morris will then turn around and head to Staten Island later that week to take on Wagner on April 5.

On April 12, RMU will take on Notre Dame for the first time in program history. The Fighting Irish were in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in 2013, and have advanced in the national bracket in five of the past six seasons (2008, 2010-13).

The Colonials end their NEC and home regular season slates on April 19 with a contest against Bryant. The Bulldogs won the conference last season over RMU, 14-7, and were then defeated by Syracuse in the NCAA Tournament, 12-7.

To end the regular season on April 26, the Colonials will make their first trip to Ann Arbor, Mich. where they will meet Michigan. The Wolverines are in their third season as a NCAA Division I program and play their home contests at the famous Michigan Stadium, which is the largest stadium in the United States according to capacity (109,901).

RMU finished the 2013 season at 8-7, marking the fifth-straight season the Colonials have ended the year with a winning record. RMU returns five All-NEC honorees, including the NEC Defensive Player of the Year, Sean Meagher (Chesterfield, Mo./St. Louis University), and All-NEC First Team selection Eric Rankel (Philadelphia, Pa./Dowingtown West).
