Colgate's Lacrosse Schedule More Home-Friendly for 2014

HAMILTON Eight home games and the addition of two new Patriot League members highlight Colgate's 2014 men's lacrosse schedule.

The Raiders are doubling their number of home games from a year ago, hosting eight of 14 regular-season contests inside Andy Kerr Stadium. The season begins with a Feb. 8 visit from Bryant followed by a Feb. 15 home date against Vermont.

Patriot League expansion of Loyola and Boston University means an eight-game conference schedule begins two weeks earlier than last season. The Raiders open Feb. 22 at Lafayette and then host Bucknell March 1.

This year's conference slate is a repeat of 2013 as far as home and away opponents are concerned. Colgate hosts Bucknell, Loyola, Holy Cross and Army, and the Raiders travel to Lafayette, Boston U., Navy and Lehigh. Colgate's only change in location from last year is playing Navy in Annapolis instead of last year's site of M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

In addition to the season-opening games, Colgate's nonconference match-ups are against Hobart (March 4), at Binghamton (March 15), against Cornell (March 18) and at Syracuse (May 3) the first meeting with the Orange since 2009. The Raiders also are playing their usual scrimmage games against Delaware (Jan. 25, away) and Albany (Feb. 1, home) to help prepare for the regular season.

This year's Patriot League Tournament takes place April 22-27 and for the first time includes a quarterfinal round. The regular season champion once again hosts the semifinals and final, and the top two seeds receive byes into Friday's semifinals. But Seeds 3-6 play a Tuesday quarterfinal round at home sites to determine the two additional teams advancing to the weekend.

Mike Murphy enters his third year at the Colgate helm having compiled a 22-11 record in his first two seasons. The Raiders finished 8-7 last year and advanced to the Patriot League Tournament semifinals. Among this year's returnees are All-Patriot League first-team seniors Bobby Lawrence and Jimmy Ryan, along with second-team junior Ryan Walsh.

Television games will be determined at a later date.

Raiders head coach Mike Murphy sat down with to discuss the 2014 schedule. His comments are below:

On the schedule as a whole: "I'm very excited about the 2014 schedule. We play five teams in the regular season that were in the NCAA tournament last year and a sixth team counting our scrimmage with Albany. Our scrimmages with Albany and Delaware challenge us because they play much differently than some of the teams in the Patriot League.
