Coastal Carolina Announces Lacrosse Schedule for 2014

CONWAY The 2014 Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse schedule features 16 total matches, eight of which will be home games played in Brooks Stadium. Of the home contests, four will be played against Big South opponents, including Campbell, Longwood, Presbyterian College and last year's conference champion and NCAA tournament participant High Point.

The Chanticleers finished last season with a 5-11 record, but ended the program's inaugural season on a high note after defeating Campbell 13-12 in a double-overtime thriller. The Chants lost only one senior from last year's team and have added a talented group of 12 newcomers to the 2014 roster.

The 2014 schedule also includes eight road matches, an area in which the Chants excelled last year after posting a 4-3 record outside of Conway.

The Chants open the season in Jacksonville, Fla., on Feb. 11, when they face Mountain Pacific Sports Federation member Oregon in a neutral-site match.

Coastal will then play its home opener on Feb. 22, hosting the Kennesaw State Owls who suffered a 21-12 loss to the Chanticleers last season.

After taking a trip to William and Mary on March 1, the Chants will host three games in five days, starting with Stetson on March 5, followed by Elon, a first-year women's lacrosse program, on March 8, and George Mason on March 10.

The Chants will close out the month of March with a tough road trip, traveling to Marquette (March 12), Cincinnati (March 14) and Virginia Tech (March 22). All three teams defeated Coastal in Brooks Stadium last season. The Chants' loss to Marquette was the closest of the three games with the Golden Eagles scraping a 12-11 win in double overtime.

Coastal will have another three-game home stand to open the Big South portion of its schedule, playing host to Campbell (March 29), Longwood (April 4) and Highpoint (April 6) before hitting the road for three consecutive away matches against Davidson (April 11), Liberty (April 13) and Winthrop (April 19).

Coastal will close out the 2014 regular season at home against Presbyterian College. The Chants recorded their first Big South victory over the Blue Hose last season after scoring six consecutive goals in the final 10 minutes of the game to win 16-15.

The Big South tournament, which features the conference's top four teams, begins with the semifinals on May 2, followed by the championship on May 4. The tournament will be hosted by the highest seeded team.
