Gannon Lacrosse Steamrolls Millersville, 15-5
ERIE, PA - The Gannon women's lacrosse team scored the first 10 goals and pounded Millersville 15-5 Saturday morning on a neutral field at Mercyhurst College.
Gannon wasted little time jumping on the visitors as Krista Schunk (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) found the back of the net 1:23 into the match. The Lady Knights rolled off nine consecutive goals after that and grabbed a 10-0 lead with 7:07 remaining in the first half. Schunk scored five of Gannon's first 10 goals.
Millersville then scored back-to-back goals before Sarah Belen's (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) goal with 58 seconds left in the first half sent the Lady Knights to halftime with an 11-2 advantage.
The second half was played with a more competitive balance as Gannon out-scored Millersville 4-3 in the final 30 minutes. The Lady Knights eventually pushed their lead to 15-3 until the Marauders added two goals in the final 49 seconds.
Schunk tallied a season-high eight goals in the lopsided victory, pushing her season total to 59. Belen added three goals. Shannon Pagano (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego), Abbey Lighton (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden), Joanna Culkin (Clifton Park, N.Y./Saratoga Springs), and Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) completed the scoring with one goal each.
Pagano and Lighton dished out four and three assists, respectively. Acacia Cook (Clay, N.Y./Clay-NS) continued her superb play in goal with 10 saves.
Gannon, ranked 10th in NCAA Division II, improved to 9-5 with its second consecutive victory. Millersville dropped to 5-9. The Lady Knights return to action Monday, April 24 against Mercyhurst at Gannon University Field. The home finale is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Sarah Belen added a hat trick for the Golden Knights (9-5), who won their fourth straight meeting with the Marauders.
Joann Caminiti (North Wales, PA/North Penn) led Millersville (5-9) with four of the squad's five tallies.
Schunk started and finished a 10-0 Gannon run in the first 23 minutes of the contest.
Caminiti broke up the shutout tallying off assists from Liz Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) and Kelly Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) assists with 3:54 and 1:41 remaining in the opening half, respectively.
Belen got her second goal of the day in the final minute of the first half to give the Golden Knights an 11-2 lead at the intermission.
With 16:44 to play, Schunk netted her sixth goal of the day to stretch the advantage to 12-2.
Two and a half minutes later, Anna Marmer (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) struck for her 20th goal of the season, but Schunk bookended Belen's third marker to complete her eight-goal day with 6:49 to play.
With her team trailing 15-3, Caminiti capped her career day with back-to-back tallies in the final minute.
The Marauders return to action at IUP on Sunday. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
