Towson's Gilardi Promoted to Associate Head Lacrosse Coach

TOWSON, Md. - Towson lacrosse offensive coordinator Anthony Gilardi has been promoted to associate head coach, head coach Shawn Nadelen announced today.

"I couldn't be more excited for Coach Gilardi on his promotion," said Nadelen. "Anthony is a man of great character, intense passion and a relentless competitive drive, which he imparts to the young men in our program every day. He has been a big part of our success over the past two years and helps to build upon the strong tradition that is Towson Lacrosse. Coach Gilardi has earned this opportunity, and I know he will embrace his new role and excel at it."

Gilardi is in his third season at Towson as the offensive coordinator. Under Gilardi's guidance, Thomas DeNapoli earned USILA All-American honors in 2013 after finishing the season with 60 points (41g, 19a). DeNapoli received first team All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) recognition as well.

Several other Tigers made impressive offensive improvement last season. Greg Cuccinello finished the season with 23 goals and six assists after recording one goal and two assists in 2012. Andrew Hodgson earned second team All-CAA honors after more than doubling his goal total and almost tripling his assist total from 2012 (27g, 14a in 2013 after 12g, 5a in 2012).

As a team, Towson scored 10-plus goals six times, including a string of four straight games, including the CAA championship game, an 11-10 victory over then-No. 9 Penn State.

In 2013 Towson won its fourth Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament title and first since 2005. The Tigers also made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007 and 11th overall.
