Iona 2014 Lacrosse Schedule Includes Tests with SBU, UMass

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College lacrosse head coach Michelle Mason announced the team's 2014 schedule. The Maroon & Gold's 16-game schedule consists of eight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference games, and eight non-conference match-ups, including four against 2013 NCAA Tournament participants.

Iona will host a four team exhibition on Feb. 15 as the Gaels play host to Binghamton, Columbia and Adelphi. The Gaels begin their regular season on the road Feb. 22 at Brown University in Providence, RI. Iona will then travel to New Britain, CT to take on the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State on Feb. 26.

The Maroon and Gold host its first home game at Mazella Field on Mar. 1 when it welcomes the University of Massachusetts in an afternoon contest. The Minutewomen earned a ranking of 13th in the IWLCA Preseason Poll. Iona continues play at home when it welcomes in New Hampshire on Mar. 10. Six days later, the early season road slate continues as the Gaels travel to the midwest to take on Cincinatti Mar. 16. Last year, the Gaels defeated the Bearcats at home 13-12 in a three overtime thriller.

After the Gaels host their second NCAA Tournament participant, and preseason No. 11 Stony Brook on Mar. 20, they continue non league action with a road game at St. Bonaventure on Mar. 23. The final nonconference match-up will see the Gaels compete in Easton Pennsylvania, against Lafayette on Apr. 19.

Iona's MAAC schedule consists of four home contests, beginning with MAAC champion Canisius (Mar. 29) and Fairfield (Apr. 2), and finishing against Manhattan (Apr. 23) and Siena (Apr. 26). The road schedule includes Marist (Apr. 5), new MAAC rival Quinnipiac (Apr. 9), Niagara (Apr. 12) and will conclude with new conference member Monmouth, 2013 NEC champions, on Apr. 16th.

The 2014 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship will take place at Canisius College the weekend of May 2-4 in Buffalo, NY. The semifinals will be played on Friday, with the championship game being held on Sunday.
