Kennesaw State Names Trio as the 2014 Lacrosse Captains

Kennesaw, Ga. Senior Emily Collins, sophomore Taylor Southerland, and freshman Taylor McGhee have been tabbed as the Kennesaw State team captains for the upcoming 2014 season.

"We are looking forward to having Taylor, Emily and Taylor serve as the team captains for 2014," head coach Kristina Llanes said. "The three of them compliment each other well on and off the field and will continue to grow as people in this leadership role. These three athletes are strong ambassadors for our program and the Kennesaw State athletic department. They are all in, all the time."

Collins tallied 19 goals and six assists including an eight-point game in the Owls first win against Howard. She is also the lone senior on the team this season.

"Every moment counts, and I have told some of the freshman that it's going to come by and you don't even know," Collins said. "It's going to end, but it does kind of feel different."

This is the second season in a row that Southerland has been named a captain. Last season she scored six goals and dished out three assists while winning 23 draw controls in the midfield.

McGhee has been named a captain as a freshman and appreciates the early respect from her teammates.

"I feel honored to have that position and excited to be able to contribute to the team, and take what I learn this year and lead the newcomers next year also," McGhee said.

Coming from Sprayberry High School, McGhee won the 2013 Outstanding Achievement Award and Outstanding Senior Award after tallying 70 points with 54 goals and 14 assists in her senior season.

The Owls open their 2014 season at home on Friday, February 7 against Vanderbilt at 5:00 P.M.
