Holy Cross Announces Lacrosse Schedule for 2014 Season

WORCESTER, Mass. The Holy Cross lacrosse program has announced its 2014 schedule. Holy Cross is scheduled to play 17 regular season games, including eight at Holy Cross Field. The Crusaders will take on four teams that made it to the 2013 NCAA Tournament (Boston College, Loyola (Md.), UMass and Navy). The Crusaders will start the season with a home game versus Bryant (Feb. 13). The Crusaders will then hit the road to take on five-time defending Atlantic 10 Tournament champion UMass (Feb. 18) and Yale (Feb. 22). The Crusaders will return home for a contest against Fairfield (Feb. 26).

Holy Cross will travel to DeLand, Fla., to play second-year program Stetson (March 2). The Crusaders will then play Sacred Heart (March 5) at Stetson. Holy Cross will start its Patriot League season with a home contest versus Colgate (March 8). The Crusaders will remain at Holy Cross Field for games against Brown (March 12) and American (March 15). After a game at new Patriot League member Boston University (March 19), the Crusaders will take on Lafayette (March 22) in Worcester.

The Crusaders will conclude the regular season with four of their six games on the road including three straight away contests versus first-year Patriot League opponent and 2013 NCAA Tournament participant Loyola (Md.) (March 29), 2013 NCAA Tournament participant Boston College (April 2) and Bucknell (April 5). After home games versus Harvard (April 9) and four-time defending Patriot League Tournament champion Navy (April 12), the Crusaders will wrap up the regular season at Lehigh (April 19).

The Patriot League Tournament will now feature a six-team field with a pair of quarterfinal games played at the site of the higher-seeded team, with the sixth-seed visiting the third-seed and the fifth-seed at the fourth-seed. Those winners will then join the top two seeds in the weekend semifinal and championship rounds, played at the site of the highest overall seed in the tournament. The brackets will re-seed after the quarterfinal round. The quarterfinals will be on April 22 before semifinals on April 25 and the championship on April 27.

Last year, the Crusaders concluded the 2013 season with a 9-10 overall record (3-3 Patriot League) as the team made it to the Patriot League Tournament championship game for the second straight season and the sixth time in program history. The Crusaders, who had lost to American by a 16-8 score early in the season, defeated the Eagles, 8-7, in the semifinals and then fell to Navy, 14-4, in the championship game. The Crusaders return 17 letterwinners and eight starters.
