Riccitelli Nets Six as Bentley Downs Assumption 16-10
WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Kellyn Riccitelli (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) scored six goals and added an assist as Bentley College topped Assumption 16-10 in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Falcons finish their NE-10 schedule at 6-4 and improved to 7-5 overall, while Assumption fell to 2-9 overall and 2-7 in the NE-10.
Assumption jumped out to an early lead as Jenny Mongeau (Westboro, Mass.) scored her first of six goals 2:23 into the contest, but Bentley would even the game just 25 seconds later as Riccitelli would score the first of her six goals. Jenna Goldstein (Duxbury, Mass.) gave Assumption its last lead of the game at 2-1 less than a minute later, but Bentley would score five of the next six goals to break the game open.
Riccitelli knotted the game at two and Liz Goddard (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) scored her 20th goal of the season to put Bentley on top 3-2 minutes later. Kate Barry (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) extended the lead just eight seconds later off an assist from freshman Alyssa Ritchie (North Andover, Mass./North Andover), one of five she would have on the afternoon. Mongeau scored her second for AIC to make the score 4-3 all in the opening ten minutes of play.
The Bentley offense would respond with eight goals in the final 20 minutes of action, while the defense would allow Assumption just one Mongeau strike the remainder of the half. Riccitelli, Ritchie and Goddard would all score twice in the Bentley run to close the half, including a Goddard goal with just a second showing on the clock to make the score 12-4 at the break.
The Falcons pulled off the gas in the second half and were content to keep possession for much of the final thirty minutes. Freshman Kim Morris (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored her second and third goals, while Riccitelli would add a pair late in the half to put Bentley on top 16-7 with four minutes to play. The Greyhounds would score three times in the final moments of the game to cut the final margin to six.
Senior Lisa Cavallo (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) finished the afternoon with 12 saves for Bentley, while Nicole Johnson (Shrewsbury, Mass.) made 16 stops for the Greyhounds. Bentley held a 36-32 advantage in shots attempted on the afternoon and held a 32-22 edge in shots on goal.
Bentley returns home to host #1 ranked C.W. Post on Sunday at 11:00.
