Hempstead, NY Hofstra head men's lacrosse coach Seth Tierney has named senior attackman Torin Varn and senior defensive midfielder Anthony Zappone as the Pride co-captains for the 2014 season.

Varn, a native of Ithaca, New York, exploded offensively last season while starting all 14 games on attack. He jumped from eight goals and one assist as a sophomore to a team-high 30 goals and 32 points in 2013. Varn recorded nine multi-goal games including a career-high five goal in the season opener against Sacred Heart and four goals against both Princeton and Saint Joseph's. He led the CAA in man-up goals with eight and ranked fourth with three game-winning goals. Varn picked up 17 ground balls including a career-high three against Drexel in 2013.

Zappone, a native of Ballston Lake, New York, played in all 14 games as a key member of Hofstra's short-stick, defensive-midfield unit. He recorded career-highs in assists with one, ground balls with 23 and forced turnovers with seven as a junior. Zappone scooped up a career-best three ground balls in games against Harvard, Dartmouth and Saint Joseph's. He also forced two turnovers, also a career-best, against Fairfield and Delaware. Zappone's lone assist and first point of his career came in a triple-overtime thriller against Drexel last March.
