Mount Olive Sprints Past Chowan in Season Opener

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Katie McGovern tied a school single-game record with five goals in the season opener for the University of Mount Olive (1-0) as she led the team to a 21-4 victory over Chowan University (0-1) in Non-conference women's lacrosse Friday night at Amon Field in Mount Olive, N.C.

Mount Olive unleashed its offensive attack as the Trojans had 23 shots on goal. Nine different Trojans recorded a goal in the contest. McGovern who played her first match as a Trojan Friday night made her night special by tying the school record for goals in a single game.

The Trojans had the lead 13-1 going into halftime as they added eight more goals to the board in the second half. Chowan's offensive power came from Mackenzie Reid as she had all of the Hawks goals. Reid scored an early goal in the first half then added scattered goals in the second half to add to her four goal total. However, that was the only offense the Hawks found as the Trojan offense proved to be too much.
