Chanticleers Fall to Oregon in Season Opener in Florida

Jacksonville, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina lacrosse team lost its season-opening game on Tuesday afternoon, falling 23-3 in a neutral-site game on the campus of Jacksonville University. The Chanticleers begin their season 0-1 while the Ducks move to 2-0.

Oregon started the game with six goal steak in the first nine minutes of the game to take an early lead over the Chants.

Coastal put its first point on the board at 19:49 of the first half courtesy of Sara Nolan by way of Charlotte O'Leary to cut Oregon's lead to five. Rachel Ferrara scored again for the Chants at 16:59, but Oregon commanded the remainder of half, scoring six more goals to take a 13-2 lead into the locker room.

The Chants managed only one more tally in the second half, when Lily Yednock scored an assisted goal at 24:49. Oregon would finish the second half with 10 goals to bring the final to 23-3.

Shannon Propst of Oregon led the game in scoring, recording six points on four goals and two assists. The Ducks also received four goals each from Courtney Valdez and Nikki Puszcz.

O'Leary led the Chants in points, assisting on Coastal's goals from Nolan and Ferrara. Yednock and Morgan Gott each recorded two draw controls, while Yednock and Constant led the team in ground balls with three apiece.

The Chanticleers return to action on Feb. 22 when they host Kennesaw State in their 2014 home-opener at Brooks Stadium.

Jacksonville, Fla. – Oregon continued its offensive surge on Tuesday, blowing past Coastal Carolina 23-3 at D.B. Milne field. Shannon Propst, Nikki Puszcz and Courtney Valdez led the Ducks with four goals each while Casey Brogan, Devon Frazer and Carly O'Connell each chipped in with three goals.

“It was another fantastic team effort with a very smart, balanced and efficient level of play on both ends of the field,” head coach Jen Beck said. “I am proud of how consistent we played in both games, especially in such a short time frame.”

The 20-point margin of victory for UO (2-0) tied the team's single-game record for largest margin of victory. The 20-plus goal in back-to-back games was only the third time in the lacrosse program's history. The last time the Ducks scored 20-plus goals in consecutive games was back in 2012

The Ducks were nearly perfect in the free position goals category, making 8 of 9, passing the record of seven set on April 6, 2012.

O'Connell was one draw control shy of tying UO's single-game record for draw controls in a game she set last year against St. Mary's.

Oregon went ahead 6-0 early on the Chants before Coastal Carolina (0-1) picked up two quick goals to make it 7-2 at the 16:59 mark in the first half as the Ducks took a 13-2 lead into the break.

Lily Yednock was able to sneak one more past Caroline Federighi to give CCU its third and final goal of the game at 24:49 before the Oregon found the back of the net eight more times to close out the game 23-3.

The Ducks will take a two week hiatus to host their 7v7 Clinic and Playday with the local community before hitting the road once again for a pair of matches at Temple (Mar. 1) and Robert Morris (Mar. 3).
