PSAC Lacrosse 2014 Preseason Coaches' Poll

Lock Haven had eight first-place votes and earned the No. 1 spot in the 2014 PSAC preseason lacrosse poll by the league's head coaches. West Chester garnered the other five first-place votes and was picked second.

ERIE, Pa. - Gannon has been picked to finish sixth out of 13 teams according to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll released Thursday afternoon.

Lock Haven is the preseason favorite, securing eight first-place votes. Defending PSAC champion West Chester followed in second place with five first-place nods. Indiana (Pa.), Mercyhurst and Bloomsburg completed the top five. Gannon, Millersville, Seton Hill, Slippery Rock and Shippensburg rounded out the top 10.

Gannon returns 12 letterwinners and seven student-athletes who started at least five matches from last year's 10-8 squad. Christie Valentine (Friendship, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) is Gannon's top returning scorer with 41 goals, 14 assists and 55 points last season. Kimberly Neagle (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) also returns after recording 36 goals, 17 assists and 53 points in 2013. Margaret Maslyn (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) remains between the pipes after posting a 12.48 goals against average and .398 save percentage while starting every match.

Head coach Lindsey Lowman's club has reached double digits in victories during nine consecutive seasons and has played in four consecutive PSAC Tournaments. The Lady Knights have produced a winning record during all 18 years of their existence.

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team was selected 13th in the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) spring preseason poll, released Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Bears finished the 2013 season with a 3-13 record and a 1-10 mark in the conference during head coach Kate Scattergood's first season with the program.

KU returns three seniors to lead this year's squad, highlighted by goalkeeper JoAnn McLaughlin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape). The Cape May, NJ native has started 42 career games in the net for the Maroon and Gold, including all 17 during her freshman and junior campaigns. McLaughlin recorded 158 saves for a .431 save percentage and led the entire team with 46 ground balls.

Krystine Beodeker (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) and Lauren Schlitt (Baldwin, NY/Oceanside) round out this year's senior class. Beodeker started all 17 games in the midfield for Kutztown and Schlitt sat out her junior season due to injury.

Junior Jillian Spencer (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) returns as the team's leading scorer, finishing her sophomore season with 21 goals and three assists.

Lock Haven secures the top-spot in the preseason poll after finishing last season perfect in regular-season PSAC competition (11-0). However, the Bald Eagles fell to West Chester in last season's PSAC Championship game, who comes in at number two in the poll. Indiana (PA), Mercyhurst, and Bloomsburg round out the top five.

Kutztown will commence its season on the road, traveling to Lakewood, NJ to square off against Georgian Court University on Wednesday, March 5 at 3:30 p.m.
