Shenandoah Names 2014 Lacrosse Team Captains

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University head women's lacrosse coach Lindsey Lutz announced the 2014 captains for her program Wednesday afternoon.

Lutz, who is preparing for her sixth season as the Hornets head coach, announced that juniors Liz Bereit and Juli Carbone have been selected as captains for the upcoming season.

Bereit, a two-time All-league honoree, started 14 of 16 games last season and was second on the squad with 31 goals and 18 assists for 49 points.

She was third in both draw controls and caused turnovers and fourth in ground balls on her way to being named second team All-ODAC.

In 2012, she was named as the USA South Conference Rookie of the Year.

Carbone, a defender, started all 16 games she played in last season and had 20 ground balls, 12 draw controls and five turnovers for the Hornets, who advanced to the ODAC championship game.

Both Bereit and Carbone were named to the Dean's List (3.25 GPA and above) the past two semesters.

"The fact that two juniors were selected to serve as captains speaks volumes about their leadership ability," Lutz said.

"Juli and Liz lead on the field, in the classroom and with our community service projects. I am very happy have them lead our squad during this spring season."

SU opens its 2014 season on Tuesday at Mary Washington.
