Schumacher Leads Wingate to Victory over Young Harris

Wingate, N.C.---Wingate defeated Young Harris (Ga.), 12-6, Sunday, winning its inaugural game on the Irwin Belk Track Complex turf field. Bulldog junior attack Cory Schumacher (Gainesville, Va.) had three goals and three assists to lead Wingate (1-0 overall) in its season opener. Young Harris is 1-2 overall.

Wingate never trailed, as Schumacher scored the first men's lacrosse goal at the Irwin Belk Track Complex turf field, posting an unassisted goal at 12:37 mark of the first quarter. Freshmen middies Steen Swedstedt (Mercer Island, Wash.) and Kevin Norman (Ocala, Fla.) each scored their first career goals in the opening frame, helping stake the Bulldogs to a 3-2 advantage.

Norman tallied his second goal (from a Schumacher assist) with 10:18 to play in the second stanza, helping Wingate take a 6-2 edge. YHC sophomore middies Mason McBroom (Orlando, Fla.) and Matt Spadafora (Edmonton, Alberta) answered with goals for the Mountain Lions, cutting the visitors' deficit to 6-4 at intermission.
