Dickinson Throttles Elizabethtown in Season Opener

(Carlisle, Pa.) The Dickinson women's lacrosse team opened the 2014 season with an 18-0 win, over visiting Elizabethtown on Wednesday afternoon at Biddle Field.

Sophomore Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) put the Devils on the board, just 2:16 into the contest, on the way to a hat-trick on her birthday. Dickinson stretched the lead to 5-0 in the opening five minutes of the contest behind three assists from sophomore Sydney Stern (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane).

In her debut, head coach Kim Lowry's Red Devils tallied their eighth goal at the 23:02 mark before slowing down the pace of the game. Clancy netted her third goal of the afternoon with 1:30 remaining in the half to give Dickinson an 11-0 advantage at halftime.

The Devils tallied seven more times after the break as senior Jess Greene (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) struck twice to close out the scoring, the final off an assist from Stern, giving her four on the day.

First-year Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) started her collegiate career with a hat-trick as well, netting three goals and handing out an assist. Stern added a goal to her four assists as 11 players found the scoring column with a goal or an assist.

Sophomore Katie Iverson (Marblehead, Mass./Pingree School) controlled four draws as Dickinson claimed possession on all 20 for the game. Sophomore Colleen Zulty (Jarretsville, Md./John Carroll) anchored a strong defensive effort with a game-high six ground balls, adding three caused turnovers.

Junior JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis School) made one save in the first half and first-year Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) came on to make one stop in the second half. The Devils held Elizabethtown to just two shots on the day.

Dana Robidoux led the Blue Jays (0-1) with a game-high four caused turnovers while Beata Palosz made seven saves.

The Red Devils are scheduled to play St. Mary's College on Saturday at the St. Paul's School for Girls. Depending on weather and field conditions, that game may be rescheduled or moved to a different venue.

CARLISLE, Pa. - Freshman goalie Beata Palosz made seven saves, but Dickinson opened up an 11-0 lead en route to handing the Blue Jays an 18-0 setback in the season opener for both teams Tuesday afternoon at Biddle Field.

The Red Devils (1-0) struck just 2:16 in when Caroline Clancy found the back of the net.

Clancy, Catie Ledwick, Sophie Waine and Maddy Siebold each scored twice as Dickinson built a 10-0 lead by the 10:35 mark of the first half. Clancy finished off a hat trick just before halftime, and Siebold would add to her four-point afternoon in the second half.

Palosz was strong after halftime, stopping five of the 12 shots on goal that the Red Devils threw her way.

Dickinson held a 38-2 shot advantage and won all 20 draws. E-town was 6 of 18 on clears, including 3 of 8 in the second half.

The Jays were held to two shots, one from Kasey Scully, the other coming coutresy of Becky Graessle.

Elizabethtown returns to action Saturday at Messiah.
