Michael LeBel Joins Colby as an Assistant Lacrosse Coach

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Michael LeBel, who won Maine Class B state titles with Falmouth High School in 2011 and 2012, has joined the Colby College men's lacrosse coaching staff as an assistant coach.

LeBel will work under first-year head coach Jack Sandler, who spent the past eight years at Skidmore College. Rashad Devoe also is an assistant coach for the Mules. LeBel will continue to coach Falmouth.

"It is exciting to have someone with Mike's experience join the staff. Not only does he have a wealth of lacrosse knowledge, he also brings a championship attitude," Sandler said. "Having known and worked with Mike for the past 15 years, his transition to the staff will be seamless."

LeBel's Falmouth program was top-ranked in Maine for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. He was the Maine Lacrosse Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2010.

LeBel played lacrosse and earned his bachelor's degree at Alfred University. He helped the Saxons to three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances in his four years and was a team captain in 1993.

While earning his master's degree at Alfred, LeBel was an assistant coach (defensive coordinator) for the Saxons in 1994 and 1995. Alfred also made the NCAA tourney in 1994.

LeBel moved on to Cushing Academy and he was the head lacrosse coach from 1999 to 2005. He was an assistant coach at Cushing before he became head coach. LeBel was the Northern New England Lacrosse League Coach of the Year in 2004 and earned the Northern New England Lacrosse League Man of the Year honor in 2005.

LeBel has been a coach at the New England Top 150 Lacrosse Camp in Portsmouth, R.I., since 1994.
