No. 1 Syracuse Hosts Maryland in Orange's First ACC Game

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The No. 1-ranked Orange (2-0, 0-0 ACC) begins a new era in its storied history Saturday, Feb. 22 when it hosts No. 7 Maryland (2-0, 0-0 ACC) at the Carrier Dome in its inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference game. Syracuse is coming off a thrilling 17-16 overtime win against No. 10 Albany. The Terps dominated UMBC in their last outing, 14-3.

Tickets are available online at Cuse.com, over the phone (1-888-DOMETIX), or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office during normal business hours. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 12 and under. 'Cuse Kids Club members get in free with their membership card and students are admitted free with valid ID. Parking is $15.

Fans who purchase tickets for the SU-Maryland game are invited to stay and watch the rematch of last year's Division III national championship game between RIT and Stevenson at 4:00 p.m.

Fans that do not have a season or individual game parking pass should park in the Manley Field House North and South lots ($15 per car) and take advantage of the free shuttle to and from College Place. Manley lots will open at 11:00 a.m. (Take Route 81 to the Brighton Ave. exit or Route 481 to the Brighton Ave./Rock Cut Rd. exit and follow the signs.)

One and Done
Saturday's game will represent the first and only meeting between Syracuse and Maryland as ACC rivals. While the Orange is just beginning its ACC tenure after four years in the Big East, the Terps are in their final year in the ACC. Maryland moves to the Big Ten in all sports, including men's lacrosse, next season.

Big Winners
Syracuse and Maryland are two of the top five winningest program's in Division I college lacrosse. The two schools have combined for 1,600 wins between them. Syracuse is second all-time with 848 victories. Maryland is fourth (752). In addition, the Orange (11) and Terps (2) have combined to win 13 NCAA championships since 1971.

... Be the program's 849th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.

... Improve SU's record to 88-20 since the start of the 2008 season.

... Be John Desko's 190th career coaching win.

Scouting Maryland
Maryland features a stout defense led preseason All-ACC selections Niko Amato (15 saves, 6 GA), Goran Murray (2 GBs, 2 CTs) and Michael Ehrhardt (9 GBs, 6 CTs). The Terps have given up just six goals total in wins against Mount St. Mary's and UMBC.

Head coach John Tillman brought in the nation's No. 1 recruiting class and it is already paying dividends. Rookie Matt Rambo leads the Terps with seven goals. Rambo is tied for the squad lead in points (9) with senior midfielder Mike Chanenchuk (5-4). Freshman attackman Connor Cannizzaro and junior midfielder Jay Carlson have five goals apiece.

Tillman is in his fourth year at Maryland. He is 57-34 overall, including a 37-15 record with the Terps. In 2011, Tillman's first year in College Park, he led the Terps to their first NCAA title game since 1998.

The Maryland Series
Saturday's game marks the first regular-season meeting between Syracuse and Maryland since 1983. It also represents the Terps' second visit to the Carrier Dome. The first was a 12-5 Orange win in the 1983 NCAA playoffs.
