Tracy, Rooney Help Lees-McRae Blank Brevard in Opener

BREVARD, N.C. - Brevard College (0-1) lost 18-0 against the Lees-McRae Bobcats (1-0) during their season opener on February 21st at Brevard Lacrosse Field.

Turnovers proved to be a determining factor for Brevard who tallied up nine during the first half turning into scoring opportunities for the Bobcats. At the 14:34 mark, BC's Emily Klapthor forced a turnover on LMC's Ximena Dupont only to turn it back over in an attempt to clear up field. Laura Wright passed the ball up field to teammate Kirsten English for the goal.

Lees-McRae racked up five goals in the first five minutes of the game setting Brevard behind. The Bobcats Jenah Tracy received the ball off the first draw to place a goal into the corner of the net past Tornados keeper Brianna Bangle.

Jenah Tracy continued to find the back of the net leading her team with five goals and two assists while teammate Katelin Rooney added four goals of her own.

Goalkeeper, Brianna Bangle saw a lot of action during the game and posted up 15 saves compared to Lees-McRae goalie Mia Emmerson who faced only 2 shots by Brevard midfielder Julia Gasston.

“It was a learning experience for us and the girls can now know what they need to work on,” spoke Head Coach Frank Rogers, “We look forward to working and improving each game.”

The women's lacrosse team will host their second game of the season on Tuesday, February 25 at 4:00 p.m.

BREVARD, N.C. -- Lees-McRae sophomore Jenah Tracy and senior Katelin Rooney combined for nine goals, as the Bobcats shut out Brevard in the season opener, 18-0, in non-conference action Friday afternoon at Brevard Lacrosse Field.

The Bobcats (1-0) have won consecutive season openers by a combined score of 38-4 while Mia Emmerson (Orlando, Fla.) earned a clean slate and two saves. The Tornados (0-1) struggled on both sides while playing a man down the entire game.

Tracy (Naples, Fla.) gave LMC a quick 2-0 lead following a pair of goals in the first 65 seconds of play.

Nicole Dupont (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Callie Gregg (Roanoke, Va.) netted a goal each to put the Bobcats up 4-0 within five minutes of action.

Freshman Kirsten English (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and Rooney (Naples, Fla.) notched two goals apiece over the next 13 minutes.

Sophomore Taylor Drake (Jupiter, Fla.) earned a goal and an assist in the first 30 minutes of play while LMC held a healthy 11-0 lead.

Tracy reciprocated her first half success by notching LMC's first goal of the second following a pass from Gregg, to find the back of the net at the 27:47 mark.

The offensive onslaught continued while Rooney collected two more goals and Julia Colburn (Mooresville, N.C.) recorded her first collegiate goal with 6:22 remaining, 17-0.

Tracy paced the high-scoring Bobcat offense with five goals while Rooney recorded four and won eight draws. English was equally as impressive with a hat trick and victorious on four draws.

BC's Julia Gasston recorded the only two shots for the home squad.

LMC forced 21 turnovers while peppering the BC goalie with 36 shots. The Tornados' Brianna Bangle amassed 15 saves.

The Bobcats return to action with a trip to Catawba Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in Salisbury, N.C.
