Hawks Come up Just Short at McKendree

Lebanon, Ill.--In the first game of the road trip Lady Hawks' lacrosse came up just short, falling to McKendree, 12-11. The loss evens Shorter to 2-2 on the season.

McKendree took an early 3-0 lead, scoring three consecutive goals in the first seven minutes of the game. The Lady Hawks answered over the next five minutes to tie the game as Rachel Skinner, Mia Wiggins, and Aiste Pranciliauskaite each netted goals. Both Wiggins and Pranciliauskaite scored once more in the half. Katie Ott also added a goal in the opening frame, as Shorter went into halftime trailing 8-6.

The Lady Hawks outscored the Bearcats in the second frame, 5-4. During the period, Ott added two goals to finish with a team high three goals. Skinner netted her second goal of the game with 18:00 minutes remaining; Shelby Beverly and Bethany Fevella also scored for Shorter.

Taylor Moody played the complete game for the Lady Hawks, making seven saves on 29 shots faced.

Shorter held the advantage in groundballs 25-16, while McKendree led in draw controls 13-11.

The Lady Hawks will wrap up their road trip Saturday afternoon as they take on Lindenwood at 3:00 pm EST.
