Shepherd Downs Alderson-Broaddus in Season Opener

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Senior midfielder Christina Ferrara (California, MD/Leonardtown) had five goals and an assist and junior attacker Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) added three goals and set a school single-game record with seven assists to lead Shepherd to a 27-0 win over Alderson-Broaddus in lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Freshman attacker Brooke Hunley (Monrovia, MD/Linganore) added four goals, while sophomore midfielder/attacker Theresa Lang (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) added three goals and an assist, while sophomore attacker Hunter Morris (Severna Park, Md./Severn) tallied three goals.

Freshman attacker Kiana Miller (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) added a pair of goals, while, sophomore midfielder Erin Phelan (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin) recorded a goal and two assists.

Freshman midfielder Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), senior attacker Hanna Wharton (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana), and freshman midfielder Courtney Schwiegerath (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) each contributed a goal and an assist.

Senior midfielder Jenny Cavey (Sykesville, Md/Westminster), freshman attacker Alex Green (Boonsboro, Md/Boonsboro), and freshman midfielder Carrie Maggio (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) all tallied single goals.

Sophomore netminder Lily Schmulowitz (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) recorded one save in a shutout effort for the Rams, while Paxton Boyer (14) and Kate Laird (6) combined for 20 saves for the Battlers

The Rams had an 18-0 lead at halftime as Ferrara scored all five of her goals in the first half..

Shepherd held a 55-2 edge in shots and a 34-9 advantage in ground balls. The Rams had a 24-4 edge in draw controls.

Shepherd begins its season at 1-0, while Alderson-Broaddus falls to.0-1. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Wheeling Jesuit at Ram Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
