Lady Knights Rout Columbia for First Win

Columbia, SC- The St. Andrews lacrosse team won its first game of the season on Wednesday, as they rolled to a big 22-9 road victory over conference foe Columbia College.

The win was the first for head coach Lexi King as her team showed how much offensive potential they have as they were able to score whenever they wanted against the first year program.

St. Andrews got out to an early 6-0 lead as the entire team played well offensively and defensively including goalie Blake Forkner who held the Koalas (0-5) scoreless for the first 17 minutes of action. SAU would keep the intensity up as they went into halftime with a 13-3 lead. The Lady Knights would then outscore the Koalas 9-6 in the second half as they played more conservatively and passed the ball around.

SAU had 8 different players score in the game including a team best 6 goals from freshman attacker Hunter Harrison. Seniors Catherine Lovallo and Jackie Jones again played well as the two combined for 7 goals and 13 points on the day. Lovallo's 4 goals now gives her the team lead with 8, just one ahead of Harrison's 7 while Jones and Lovallo lead in assists with four. Also having a big game was junior midfielder Risa Wautel as she also scored 4 goals and recorded a team best 7 ground balls along with 2 draw control wins.

Defensively, freshman Joelle-Sara Prata also played well as she forced 4 turnovers with her great play as well as intercepting a pass, recording two ground balls and even scoring two late goals, the first of her career. Sophomore defender Tyreeka Johnson also stepped up as she won a team-high 4 draw controls along with one interception while scoring her first career goal as well in the second half.

Senior attacker Shiloh Kozlowski also scored her first goal of the year while recording one assist and 3 ground balls in the victory. Sophomore midfielder Anastasia Schultz then chipped in a goal as well while also gathering three ground balls, forcing a turnover and winning a draw.

The win improves SAU to 1-2 on the year and 1-1 in the conference as they will now prepare to host conference rival and 5th ranked Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
