Colorado College Shuts out Dallas

IRVING, Texas Senior attacker Madeline Scherer recorded career highs with four goals, three assists and seven points to help lead Colorado College to a 20-0 victory at the University of Dallas on Saturday morning.

It took just 12 seconds for Scherer to score the only goal the Tigers would need after taking a pass from senior midfielder Elise Burchard, who pounced on the opening draw control.

Meanwhile, the CC defense allowed just three total shots en route to its first shutout since a 13-0 blanking of Dallas on March 5, 2006.

Sophomore Martha Smith made one save during the first half to earn her first victory of the season. Maddie Pillari did not face a shot on goal during the final 30 minutes.

Burchard, who finished with two goals and two assists, had a game-high four draw controls and three ground balls for the Tigers.

Junior midfielder Maddie Pitkin set a career high of five points with four goals and an assist.

Sophomore attacker Becca Gasperoni also struck for a career-best four tallies. In addition, she scooped up a game-high five ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.

Senior attacker Iris Rayburn set career highs with three points and a pair of assists, while sophomore attacker Morgan Novy added a pair of markers for the second game in a row.

Colorado College finished with a 17-5 advantage in draw controls and a 33-16 edge in ground balls.

It marked the first time that CC scored 20 or more goals in back-to-back games since 2011 when it defeated Millsaps College (21-1) and Birmingham-Southern College (20-16) on March 16 and 23, respectively.

The Tigers, who improved to 2-1, have little time to rest. They play Augsburg College at Crusader field at 1:00 p.m. CT.
