Thomas Scores Five as Baldwin Wallace Routes Lourdes

BEREA, Ohio –Freshman midfielder Sierra Thomas (Medina) scored a school-record five goals to lead Baldwin Wallace to a 19-1 victory against NAIA Lourdes on the Tressel Field at the George Finnie Stadium.

In addition to Thomas for the Yellow Jackets (1-0), freshmen midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood /Rocky River), midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) and junior midfielder Cara Wood (Shaker Heights /Laurel) each scored three goals. Freshman midfielder Kelsey Johnson (Carmel, Ind. /Park Tudor) tallied a school-record three assists.

Lourdes (0-1) got its lone goal freshman attacker Faith Fisher.

BW outshot Lourdes, 31-12, and held a 57-45 advantage in ground balls. The Yellow Jackets led 12-0 after the first half and held a 19-0 advantage until the Gray Wolves scored their lone goal with just 46 seconds left in the game.

The Yellow Jackets next host NCAA Division II Ursuline College on Wednesday, March 5 in George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

Lourdes University's women's lacrosse team made its program debut on Saturday afternoon, falling 19-1 to Baldwin Wallace at George Finne Stadium in Berea, Ohio.

The Yellow Jackets scored seven times in the first 7:06 of the game before taking a 12-0 lead into halftime. Lourdes scored for the first time in program history with 46 seconds remaining as Faith Fisher (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) found the back of the cage for an unassisted tally

Baldwin Wallace held a 31-12 shot advantage on the afternoon, including a 27-7 edge on goal. Lolo Garza (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) made six saves in the opening 30 minutes for the Gray Wolves while Amanda Kaczmarek (Berkey, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) made two stops in the second half.

Katie Cerveny (Erie, Mich./Mason Senior H.S.) led Lourdes with three shot attempts while Fisher and Allison Mazey (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) each had two shots on goal.

Sierra Thomas scored five times for Baldwin Wallace (1-0) while Maddie Russell added three goals and two assists for the Yellow Jackets.

Lourdes (0-1) will open up Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Pontiac, Mich. to host Indiana Tech. Action will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Ultimate Soccer Arena. This game was originally scheduled for Tuesday evening, but has been moved due to field conditions.
