Altomare Scores Four as Hofstra Runs by Central Connecticut

Hempstead, N.Y. Hofstra's offense erupted for eight goals in the first 10 minutes to power the Pride to a 17-5 victory over Central Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.

Junior attacker Brittain Altomare had a hat trick through the first seven minutes and finished with four goals and two assists for six points. Five Hofstra players registered multi-goal games with all reaching the plateau in the opening half as the Pride improved to 3-2 on the season. CCSU fell to 1-2.

Senior midfielder Alexandra Mezzanotte, freshman midfielder Erika Neumen, freshman attacker Tiana Parrella and junior attacker Sam Lenox all scored a pair of goals for the Pride. Hofstra has won five of the last six home games. The Pride is 2-0 when out-shooting opponents and 3-0 when leading at the half.

Altomare set a Hofstra season high for points, breaking her previous record of five against Fairfield on Feb. 19. She has also logged at least one point in 24 straight games. The Wolfsville, Md. native tied a career high with her second career foul-goal game, which she also had at Marist on Feb. 26, 2013.

Ten Hofstra players tallied goals in the win. The goal total was the highest for Hofstra since the Pride notched 18 versus George Mason last season.

Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Gregerson earned the win with five saves in 48:43. Freshman goalkeeper Alexis Greene made her collegiate debut and made two saves in 11:17.

The Pride scored nine goals in the first 11 minutes and posted the first 12 shots-on-goal in the contest. Six different players scored goals in the opening half as Hofstra built a 12-1 halftime edge. Hofstra had a 20-5 edge in shots entering the break with the Pride winning 11 of the 14 draw controls to maintain a sizable possession advantage.

Senior attackers Lindsay McKinnon, Jacquelyn Ardolino and Juila Riemer all scored goals with junior attacker Kaitlin Ayres also added her first goal of the season.

Hofstra will next be in action on Friday when the Pride hosts Marist at 7:00 p.m. in a non-conference match-up.
