Giudice, Cook Lead Brockport Over Alfred

Freshman Jake Giudice (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) scored five times and junior Justin Cook (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) added four goals to lead College at Brockport to a 14-8 victory over Alfred University Saturday afternoon in the season opener for the Golden Eagles on Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium in Brockport.

Brockport (1-0) scored three of the first four goals of the game to take an early lead with Cook scoring twice and Giudice adding one in the first eight minutes of action. After Alfred (0-1) scored to trim the lead to 3-2, Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) scored with 11 seconds left in the quarter to give Brockport the 4-2 lead after 15 minutes.

In the second quarter, Alfred scored twice to tie the score at 4-4 before Brockport rattled of three of the next four goals to regain the two-goal advantage at 7-5. Giudice had two goals and Cook one in the run.

The Saxons scored late in the first half to make it a 7-6 Brockport lead as the teams headed to the locker room for the halftime intermission.

Cook scored a man up goal early in the third quarter and Steve Brissette (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) added the first of his two second-half goals to give Brockport a 9-6 lead.

An Alfred goal midway through the quarter timed the lead to two goals but Brockport answered with two goals in the final six minutes of the quarter including a Bryan Palmer (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) goal with 10 seconds left in the quarter for an 11-7 Brockport lead.

In the final 15 minutes of action Giudice added two more goals and John Countryman (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) scored at the 3:02 mark as Brockport cruised to the victory.

Giudice finished with five goals and two assists while Cook was credited with four goals and an assist. Brissette and Austin each had two goals and an assist and Countryman added a goal and two assists. Clifton Jackson (Snyder, NY/Amherst) had two assists.

Freshman goalie Conor Nowak (Lakeview, NY/Eden) made 10 saves to earn the victory.
