Mariners Drop Season Opener to Curry

MILTON, Mass. -- Curry jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead en route to an 11-3 win over Maine Maritime in a non-conference men's lacrosse game Saturday. The Colonels improved to 1-1, while the Mariners fell to 0-1.

Ronald Jensen and Sean Ahern each netted four goals to pace the Curry offense and Tim McNair stopped 13 shots in goal.

Nicholas Betti led Maine Maritime with a goal and an assist and Bronson Guimond and Tim Grant each picked up a goal. Gavin Cote picked up 10 saves between the pipes.

Jensen accounted for the only score of the opening quarter with a man-up goal at 10:45. Curry added four answered goals in the second to lead 5-0 at halftime.

Nick Snelling found Betti to get the Mariners on the board in the third and Guimond followed an Ahern score with a man-up goal -- off a pass from Betti -- to make it 6-2 with 6:04 left in the third. The Colonels netted the next five to lead 11-2 with 7:25 left in the game before Grant scored the final goal of the game with 5:04 left.

The Mariners return to action March 14 hosting Mass. Maritime, 7:00 p.m., in the first game of the inaugural Maritime Cup.
