Last Second Goal by Ferum Topples Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. Rhodes men's lacrosse fell to Ferrum College on a last second shot, 11-10 on Saturday. The loss moves the Lynx to 4-2 this season, while the Panthers advance to 1-3 on the season.

Ferrum opened scoring with a pair of goals from Daniel Batong and Will Walter. Rhodes' Merrill Charette had an answer as he converted a Kevin Vieira pass for the Lynx' first goal to make the count 2-1. Jason Lee scored an unassisted goal for the only other Lynx goal in the first period, while Ferrum tallied five goals for a score of 5-2. The second quarter saw only one goal, from Charette, as he netted his second goal off a pass from Andrew Salamunovich.

The second half saw a flurry of action as there were three Panther goals scored right off the bat, to make the count 8-3 at the 9:44 mark. Copper Robinson and MG Jadick found a way to get into the scoring column, as the two goals to close the third period made the count 8-5.

In the fourth quarter, the Lynx found the momentum and ran with it. Vieira opened scoring, pulling to 9-6. Then Rhodes scored four unanswered goals to tie the game at 10-10 with 3:14 to play, including two scores from Charette and a goal each from Lee and Matt Vavrek. The Lynx defense held strong, until the Panther's Ethan Wakefield squeezed through the defense with three seconds left in regulation, to score the game winning goal and lifting Ferrum, 11-10.

Braxton Carr was in goal for the Lynx, earning all 60 minutes of play. While in net, Carr grabbed 15 saves. Damian Pulos earned the win in the outing, snagging nine saves.

Rhodes saw their opponents narrowly outshoot them by a count of 33-26. The ground balls race was a tight one as well, with the Lynx picking up 38 to Ferrum's 35.

Rhodes will be back on the pitch tomorrow, March 2 as they host Centenary College at 1:00 p.m. on Crain Field.
