Dickinson Scores Final Three to Edge Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Dickinson scored the final three goals Saturday to rally for a 9-8 non-league women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah.

Trailing 8-6, Dickinson (3-0) scored three goals in a span of 3:01 midway through the second half to steal the victory over Shenandoah (0-3).

The Hornets had two chances in the final five minutes but DC keeper JoJo Auerbach came up with a save on both occasions to preserve the victory.

Dickinson then ran out the last two minutes of the clock in its offensive end.

Prior to the three-goal rally, SU had only briefly trailed in the contest.

Senior Samantha Sisson, who finished with a goal and three assists, got the hosts on the board with a free position goal at 27:21.

The Red Devils answered with goals at 23:17 and 22:23 before Shenandoah took the lead with a three-goal run of its own in a span of 1:39.

Samantha Donaghy started the run with free position goal at 17:52 followed by Miranda Rudacille and Becky Bove tallies at 16:31 and 16:13, respectively.

Dickinson, on two Caroline Clancy goals, tied the game at 4-4 heading into the break.

Shenandoah started the second with another three-goal run, with Donaghy scoring twice, before DC ended the game on a 5-1 run. Junior Liz Bereit had the only SU goal during this spurt.

Dickinson outshot Shenandoah 23-18 and held an 11-8 advantage in draw controls.

The two teams split 32 groundballs. Ashley Cross had 13 saves in the losing effort. The Hornets host Frostburg State Wednesday night at 7.

(Winchester, Va.) Dickinson rallied past Shenandoah, 9-8, on Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten on the season at 3-0.

Sophomore Sydney Stern (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) dished out three straight assists and Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day) scored twice to erase an 8-6 deficit, and the Red Devils held on through a scoreless 11 minutes.

The Hornets struck first, converting a free position shot at the 27:21 mark of the first half. Stern answered for the Red Devils, scoring unassisted, with 23:17 remaining in the half.

O'Brien found the net, just under a minute later, to put Dickinson on top, 2-1.

Shenandoah linked together three straight goals to pull in front, 4-2, with 16:13 remaining in the first half.

Sophomore Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) answered with a pair of goals to close out the half, tying the game 4-4, at the break.

Samantha Donaghy and Samantha Sisson led the Hornets to another three-goal run to open the second half.

Katie Iverson (Marblehead, Mass./Pingree School) broke up the run, finishing an assist from Stern at the 21:09 mark. First-year Maddy Seibold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) made it a one-goal game with 20:01 remaining in the contest.

Liz Bereit countered with a goal, less than a minute later, to stretch the lead back to a pair, 8-6, with 19:39 to play.

O'Brien finished an assist from Stern at the 14:56 mark, and again with 11:19 remaining, to tie the game 8-8. Stern then fed classmate Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) to put Dickinson in front for good, with 10:52 to play in the game.

The Red Devils closed the door while junior goaltender JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis) made a pair of saves in the final five minutes to secure the win.

O'Brien finished with a hat-trick while Stern tallied a goal and four assists on the day. Sophomore Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) controlled three draws and a pair of ground balls to anchor the defense.

Auerbach made eight saves in the nets for Dickinson while Ashley Cross stopped 13 shots for Shenandoah. Donagh led the Hornets with three goals while Sisson tallied a goal and three assists on the day.

The Red Devils improve to 3-0 on the season. They are scheduled to travel to Messiah College on Wednesday for a 4:00 pm start.
