Kean Breezes Past Centenary in Season Opener

UNION, N.J. - Kean took the lead 20 seconds into the game and never looked back during an 18-2 victory over Centenary Saturday at Alumni Stadium.

Jordan Blanda's goal at the 29:40 mark was the first of 13 first-half goals for the Cougars (1-0).

Sophomores Carlie Schmitt (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) and Devin Sutko (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) accounted for Centenary's goals late in the second stanza. Schmitt put the Cyclones on the board with a goal off a free-position attempt, while Sutko's tally with 11 seconds to play in the game was also a free-position score.

Sutko and Schmitt combined to attempt six of Centenary's 10 shots. Sophomore Kristen Rabenstein (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) collected four caused turnovers, while freshman goalkeeper Andrea Wisniewski (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) made four saves.

Kean, which totaled 26 shots, received five goals from Samantha Gnapp. Maggie Brocklebank added three scores and five assists.

The Cyclones' Tuesday game at Mt. St. Vincent has been postponed, so Centenary will now return to action March 6 at Old Westbury beginning at 7:00 pm.
