Fiore Has 10 Pts. as Guilford Routs Trine

GREENSBORO, N.C. Sophomore attackman Adam Fiore (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) scored a game- and career-high 10 points on four goals and six assists in Guilford's 17-5 men's lacrosse win over visiting Trine Saturday night.

Fiore had a goal and five assists in Guilford's 10-goal third quarter, which turned a three-goal game at the half into a blowout. His 10 points and six assists are the most in a game by a Quaker since Josh Miller 04 scored eight assists and 12 points in a 2004 win over Shenandoah University.

The game was tied at 3-3 early in the second quarter before the Quakers scored three straight goals to take a 6-3 lead. After Trine's Rob Brzezinski netted an unassisted goal 65 seconds before halftime, the Thunder (0-2) did not score again until Chris Ward's tally with 35 seconds left in regulation. Fiore scored with 28 seconds left in the half, which gave the hosts a 7-4 halftime lead. Guilford's 10 third-quarter tallies are its most in a period since it scored 10 in the first quarter of a 29-4 win over Misericordia College in 2002.

Guilford's Daniel Hughey (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) and Jace Sowden both added a career-best four goals apiece. Sowden netted all of his goals in the decisive third quarter. The Quakers' Connor Manning (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) won 10-of-18 face-offs and picked up a game-high nine ground balls. Thomas Deane, the first of three Guilford goalies, made 10 saves in three quarters of work.

Brzezinski won 14-of-24 draws and shared game-high honors with nine pickups. He was one of five different goal-scorers for the Thunder. Junior Matt Lamb went the distance in goal and recorded 13 saves and three ground balls.

Guilford hosts Farmingdale State Wednesday (3/5) at 4:00 p.m.
