Kristiansen Leads Shorter Over Post

ROME--Shorter used a second half rally to top the Eagles of Post, 12-11. The win, Shorter's second of the season bring the Hawks to an even 2-2 record.

The Eagles got on the board first, scoring with 10:37 to play in the opening frame, and added to the lead with another at the 8:25 mark. Shorter cut the lead in half two minutes later as Jack Currier netted the first goal of the game for the Hawks. Post scored with 2:27 to make it a 3-1 game at the end of the first period.

The second quarter opened with three consecutive goals by the Eagles, but Shorter was able to get one back as Matt Kristiansen scored his first goal of the game on a feed from Kyle VanKauwenberg with 1:59 to play in the first half, seconds later Post answered and took a 7-2 lead into the intermission.

The Hawks found their stride in the third frame; scoring six times, while holding the Eagles to four goals. Of the six goals scored by the Hawks in the frame, five came from Kristiansen; Currier added his second goal of the game with 9:01 remaining in the period. Shorter trailed 11-8 entering the final frame.

It was all Shorter in the fourth, as Kristiansen added two goals to close out the game having tallied 9 goals. James VandenBrink netted the tying goal with 2:19 to play, and forced overtime.

Shorter had the ball to start the extra frame, and it didn't take long as Andrew King found the back of the net with 3:04 on the clock, and gave the Hawks the win.

JR Willers played the completely game in goal for Shorter, making 19 saves on 30 shots faced. Anthony DeRosa and Matt Castellvi combined for 15 saves, while facing 27 shots.

Shorter won 14 face-offs on the day, and went 2-6 in extra man opportunities; while also completing 8-9 clear attempts. The Hawks also held the advantage in ground balls 25-22.

Shorter will be back in action March 5, as they travel to Winter Park, Fla. to take on Rollins College in the first of a two game road trip. They will conclude the trip March 8 at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla. Game times are set for 7:00 pm and 12:00 p.m., respectively.
