Hovey, Vantour Propel St. Lawrence Past Babson

NEW HAVEN, Conn.-Junior Tommy Hovey (Simsbury, Conn.) scored a career-high four goals and sophomore Jeremy Vantour (Hampton, New Brunswick) had two goals and two assists to lift St. Lawrence to a season-opening 15-4 victory over Babson in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Alonzo Holcombe (Baldwin, N.Y.) and junior Charlie Jennings (Wellesley, Mass.) each scored twice for the Saints, who built a three-goal lead after the first quarter and were on top 7-2 at halftime.

Sophomore Spencer Low (Natick, Mass.) scored twice for the Beavers, while classmate Brendan Coan (Towson, Md.) had a goal and two assists. Junior Kyle Barsalou (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored once and first-year Matthew Logan (Downingtown, Pa.) contributed an assist.

Down five to start the third quarter, Low scored twice to get the Green and White back within three at 7-4. St. Lawrence responded though, scoring the final two goals of the third quarter and then tacking on six more goals in the fourth to pull away for the win.

Senior Adam Daroff (Pepper Pike, Ohio) made 13 saves for the Beavers, who were outshot 28-13. Junior Nick Ford (Wallingford, Conn.) stopped nine shots in his first collegiate start for the Saints.

Saint Lawrence held a slim 22-19 edge in groundballs and won 13 of 20 face-offs on the day.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday as Babson travels to Eastern Connecticut State, while St. Lawrence is set to host Oswego State. Both games start at 4:00 p.m.
