Acklin Named Captain of Maritime Lacrosse Squad

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 3, 2014) Maritime lacrosse third-year head coach Ann Denning announced on Monday that junior midfielder Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward) has been named the Privateers' captain for the upcoming 2014 season. This will be Acklin's third season with the team, as she has been one of Maritime's consistent contributors both on and off the field.

"I am thrilled to announce that Charlotte is the captain for the 2014 season," commented Denning. "As a coach, she has been one of, if not the hardest working athlete I have had the pleasure of working with. Charlotte is the epitome of what it means to be a student athlete here at Maritime. It has been a privilege for me to watch her grow both on and off the field over the last two seasons and we can't wait to see her in action this year."

Her first year at Maritime back in 2011-12, Acklin was a four-sport athlete, competing on both the cross county and volleyball teams in the fall season, the swimming team in the winter and the lacrosse team in the spring. She has excelled in each sport and has since limited her time to just volleyball, swimming and lacrosse.

On the lacrosse field, Acklin has been a starter in each of her first two seasons. She has played in 24 games and has scored 15 goals, while picking up two assists for a career total of 17 points. She has also contributed to the Privateers' possession game by claiming 42 draw controls, picking up 48 groundballs and causing 24 turnovers.

Acklin and rest of the Maritime begin the 2014 season this Saturday, March 8, with a home game against Rutgers-Camden. Opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
