Top Boys' Teams Head to NC for King of Spring Face-off Classic

DURHAM, N.C. Nearly 30 of the nation's top high school lacrosse teams will compete in the fifth annual Brine King of the Spring Face-Off Classic, scheduled for March 7 to 10, 2014, in the Triangle area of North Carolina. Joining hosts Durham Academy and Cardinal Gibbons High School in sponsoring the event are Brine Lacrosse, OT Sports, Triangle Orthopedic Associates, Republic Wireless, Lacrosse.com, Muscle Milk and Fusion Lacrosse.

This year's tournament aims to raise awareness of Lead The Way Fund, a nonprofit that supports disabled U.S. Army Rangers and the families of Rangers who perished, were injured or are serving in harm's way. The focus on Lead The Way Fund honors Jimmy Regan, a former Duke University lacrosse player who was killed in action in 2007 as an Army Ranger serving in Iraq. King of the Spring director and Durham Academy varsity boys lacrosse coach Jon Lantzy coached Regan when he was an assistant coach at Duke.

A weekend of outstanding lacrosse action is highlighted by the Lead the Way Fund High School double header on Friday March 7, 2104 at Durham County Stadium featuring a match-up between two-time defending NCISAA champion Charlotte Latin and tournament host and ten-time past NCISAA champion Durham Academy, face-off is set for 6:15 pm. Durham Academy v. Charlotte Latin will be followed by a match-up of two NCHSAA powers and past state champions, Charlotte Catholic and Lake Norman High School. OT Sports, the North Carolina-based lacrosse uniform manufacturing company will supply all four teams with special camouflage uniforms in honor of the Ranger Lead the Way Fund!

In addition to the high school action, the event will feature a NCAA DI collegiate match pairing the University of Richmond Spiders and University of Vermont Catamounts on March 8 at Durham County Stadium, face-off is set for 1:00 pm. Richmond coach Dan Chemotti said he's "looking forward to both the competition with Vermont and the opportunity to "show appreciation for both the Lead The Way Fund and all those who protect our nation's freedom."

Cost of admission will be $5.00 with proceeds' going to support the "Lead the Way Fund". Please come out of and show the lacrosse world what a great lacrosse community we have in the Raleigh-Durham, Chapel Hill area come out to catch some great lacrosse action in support of a great cause.
