Truett-McConnell (GA) Adding Lacrosse for 2014-2015

CLEVELAND, Ga. The Truett-McConnell College Department of Athletics announced Monday the addition of women's lacrosse, a growing sport with nearly 14,000 women participating nationwide in 2012, to the school's 2014-15 school year.

"Like all other athletic endeavors at Truett-McConnell College, we welcome the addition of women's Lacrosse as another sport to help teach our student-athletes how to be champions in life by expressing their Christian worldview in all," said Dr. Stacy Hall, TMC's Director of Athletics.

The school gained admission to the National Women's Lacrosse League, a reputable league made up of 22 schools, including six members of the Appalachian Athletic Conference, February 17.

"As Truett-McConnell continues to expand rapidly, we are blessed to welcome women's lacrosse to our family," said TMC President, Dr. Emir Caner. "Now these student-athletes can use their God-given talents to honor the Lord as they compete at the highest collegiate levels."

"As they use their talents in the field of play, we pray God will raise up a new generation who will change this world for Christ," Canner added. On campus facility renovations are taking place in order to allow TMC to host the sport, including a completely redesigned soccer field with a bigger footprint, laser grade, new irrigation and drainage, and new turf. New benches and storage houses will also be added.

Accompanying the addition of this widely growing sport that reported a 4.8 percent growth rate among collegiate women in 2012, is recently hired head coach and TMC alum, Michael Thomas, pioneer head coach to Peachtree Ridge High School .

"I'm excited for the opportunity to return to Truett-McConnell College and help build the women's lacrosse program," Thomas said. "Lacrosse is a great sport and I'm honored to introduce it to TMC and the local community."

Those who are interested in playing women's lacrosse at TMC or in learning more about the program can contact coach Thomas at mthomas@truett.edu.
