Lycoming Drops Non-Conference Tilt to No. 13 Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. Sophomore Mike Cooper (Riva, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led Lycoming with two goals, but 13th-ranked Ithaca used a nine-goal first half to post a 15-3 non-conference win on Wednesday afternoon, March 5, at Higgins Stadium.

Cooper finished with two goals on seven shots while senior Matt McCaffer (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) added a goal and an assist to lead the Warriors (0-3 overall). Junior John Scarponi (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) picked up five ground balls and both junior Thomas Hanson (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothills) and junior Alex Wylly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) added three each. Hanson also added a caused turnover.

Ithaca (2-1 overall) was led by five goals and an assist from Jake Long and three goals from Michael Walker, as the Bombers fired 60 shots in the game. John Janusziewski posted two goals and three assists and Brandon Henne led the team with eight ground balls.

The Bombers scored five goals in the first period before Cooper scored his first goal with 25 seconds left. In the second, Ithaca scored three more before McCaffer found the net with 5:36 left before halftime. The Bombers scored once more before the break. In the third quarter, Ithaca scored six goals before Cooper rounded out the scoring on a dish from McCaffer with 21 seconds left in the period.

Wylly (0-3) stopped 12 shots in net for the Warriors in 58 minutes before senior Sean Brown (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) finished the game. Scott Sidnam (2-1) earned the win for the Bombers, as he stopped seven shots in three quarters, allowing all three goals.

The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, March 8, when they host Scranton in a 1:00 p.m. non-conference game at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
