No. 1 RIT Wins High-Scoring, Wintery Battle with Brockport

ROCHESTER, NY Junior Casey Jackson (Victoria, BC/Claremont) scored tallied seven points and scored six goals, as No. 1 RIT (3-0) defeated Brockport, 18-11, in non-conference action from a snowy and cold Turf Field Wednesday afternoon.

RIT held a 61-36 shot advantage and won the ground ball battle, 43-37. The Tigers won 17 of 31 face-offs and went 3 for 3 on man-up opportunities.

Jackson led the Tigers with six goals, while Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) had six points on three goals and three assists. Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) and Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) each scored twice.

Taylor Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor), Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin), Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes), Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) and Beau Riley (Homer, NY/Homer) each scored a goal. Krzyston had four assists, while Riley tallied his first collegiate goal.

Anthony DeLeo (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) got the start in net for RIT, picking up his first win of the season, making 15 saves. Brooks-Lambert went 13 of 20 on face-offs and had 11 ground balls. Matt Hossack (Port Perry, Ontario/Port Perry) had three caused turnovers, an assist and had two ground balls.

RIT led 6-1 after the first quarter, scoring the final six goals of the opening quarter. Riley Austin gave Brockport and early 1-0 lead before the Tigers closed out the first quarter on a 6-0 run. Warren scored two of RIT's six goals in the first quarter, while Wallace, Jackson, Brooks-Lambert and Krzyston tallied the other four.

Brockport opened the second quarter with a three-minute man-up chance after RIT was flagged for a penalty. The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the quarter with consecutive goals from Justin Cook and John Countryman, cutting the Tigers led to 6-3.

Jackson broke the mini-run by Brockport with his seventh goal of the season with 13:25 to play in the first half giving RIT a 7-3 lead.

Countryman scored off an assist from Austin with 12:40 to play in the first half, making it 7-4 RIT.

The Tigers rattled off four straight goals, taking an 11-4 lead with 4:05 to play on Jackson's second straight goal, and third of the quarter.

Austin and Jake Giudice scored goals for Brockport late in the first half, cutting the Tigers lead to 11-6, but Aquin's goal with :04 seconds to play in the second quarter gave RIT a 12-6 lead at the break.

RIT outscored Brockport 4-1 in the third quarter with two goals from Jackson, and one goal each from Lee and Wisman giving RIT a 16-7 lead.

Brockport outscored the Tigers 4-2 in the fourth quarter with goals from Casey Cleary, Giudice and two from Countryman, while Wallace and Riley scored for RIT making it an 18-11 final.

Countryman led Brockport with four goals. Giudice had two goals and two assists, Austin finished with two goals and an assist. Conor Nowak got the start in net for Brockport, making 10 saves. Shane Hutchins played the fourth quarter, making five saves.

RIT is off until Wednesday, March 12 when the Tigers face No. 2 SUNY Cortland at 7:00 p.m. at the Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University. It is a rematch of last year's National Semifinals that saw RIT win in overtime. It potentially could be the second time this season the No. 1 team faces the No. 2 team in Division III.

Sophomore John Countryman (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) scored four goals with two in each half for Brockport, but it was not enough, and the Golden Eagles dropped an 18-11 decision to the country's number one ranked team, RIT, Wednesday afternoon in wintery conditions on the RIT Turf Field in Rochester.
