Shippensburg Outlasts Shepherd in 14-11 Battle

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Kayla Dalzell had a game-high four goals to lead Shippensburg to a 14-11 win over Shepherd in lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Wednesday.

The Raiders also got two goals and three assists from Amanda Krok. Courtney Kennedy added four assists.

Sophomore midfielder Erin Phelan (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) had three goals to lead the Rams. Junior attacker Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) and senior midfielder Christina Ferrara (California, MD/Leonardtown) each had two.

Sophomore attacker Hunter Morris (Severna Park, Md./Severn), sophomore midfielder/attacker Theresa Lang (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding), and freshman midfielder Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) each tallied single goals for the Rams.

Shippensburg opened the game on a 6-0 run and took a 7-5 lead into the break.

The Raiders opened the second half on a 6-1 run to build a seven-goal lead at 13-6 to take control of the contest.

Junior netminder Lily Schmulowitz (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) recorded seven saves for the Rams, while Ally Frymoyer had five saves for the Raiders.

Shippensburg held a 33-18 edge in shots while Shepherd had a 15-12 advantage in draw controls. The Raiders had a 27-22 edge in ground balls.

Shepherd falls to 3-1, while Shippensburg improves to 1-0. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to Tiffin for an 11:00 a.m. contest.
