Skyhawks Double up Shorter to Move to 3-0

Durango, Colo. -- Shorter closed out its Colorado road trip with a loss at Fort Lewis, 20-10. The loss moves Shorter to 3-5 on the season, while Fort Lewis improves to 3-0 overall.

The Skyhawks got on the board first, scoring twice before a minute ticked off the clock. The Lady Hawks answered with one of their own to cut the lead in half on Mia Wiggins' first goal of the game. Fort Lewis added ten more goals during the frame, while holding the Shorter to two - one from Rachel Skinner and one from Amber Hicks, to take a 12-3 lead into the intermission.

The second frame opened just as the first, with the Skyhawks scoring first, this time only once and extended their lead to 13-3. Shelby Beverly cut the lead back to nine when she found the back of the net with 27:22 to play, but Fort Lewis answered with two more goals, making it a 15-4 game. The Lady Hawks followed with three consecutive goals by Skinner, Bianca Rojas, and Katie Ott, cutting the lead to 15-7 with 11:50 to play.

Through the final eleven minutes of the game, Fort Lewis scored five more times, while Shorter added three - two from Wiggins and one from Aiste Pranciliauskaite.

Taylor Moody played the complete game in goal for the Lady Hawks, making eight saves on twenty-eight shots faced.

Shorter held the advantage on draw controls, 13-5, while the Skyhawks picked up 48 ground balls to the Lady Hawks 27.

Shorter will be back in action March 15, as they travel to Mount Olive, N.C. to take on Mount Olive College. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
