No. 5 Franklin & Marshall Dispatches No. 9 York

YORK, Pa. -- Emily Everdell netted three goals to lead No. 5 Franklin & Marshall to a 9-3 victory over No. 9 York in non-conference lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon. The win is fourth straight over the Spartans for the Diplomats, who improved to 3-0 on the season while York fell to 2-1.

The Diplomats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead midway through the first half. Mary Mitchell put the Diplomats on the board first off a free-position shot at 26:39. Anastasia Mergner found Brittney Jorgenson at 17:40 before Everdell picked up her first of the game three minutes later to make it 3-0.

Sarah Castle temporarily stop the scoring for F&M with a goal off a free position, but the Diplomats countered and closed out the half with a 4-0 run. Casey Madden started the run at 10:18 and Caroline Krohn fed Ali Kelly a minute later to put the Diplomats up four, 5-1. Everdell tallied her second goal at 8:49 and Krohn struck unassisted to give F&M a 7-1 lead at the break.

Scoring slowed down in the second half with each team netting two goals. The Spartans put two through in the opening half of the final stanza, to come within four, 7-3 before the Diplomats tallied the final two scores of the game to secure the win. Krohn picked up her second goal on a free position shot at 6:39 and Everdell buried a pass from Mitchell with just 46 seconds left for the final goal of the game.

Christie Bonfiglio and Everdell both finished with two caused turnovers while Caroline Doran ended with a team-high four ground balls.

Kelsey Hoffman turned away seven shots and improved to 3-0 while Ashley Smith took the loss with 12 stops.

The Diplomats outshot York 31-13, forced 20 turnovers and went 15 for 17 in clear attempts.

F&M returns to action next Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to Occidental, Calif. to take on Stevens and Occidental. The Stevens game starts at 2:00 p.m. EST followed by the Occidental contest at 8:00 p.m. EST.
