Wheeling Jesuit Scores Big Win at No. 15 Saint Leo

ST LEO, Fla. Wheeling Jesuit picked up a big 9-6 victory over the USILA's #15 St. Leo Lions on Wednesday night in the midweek match of their spring break road trip to Florida.

The Cardinals advance to 2-0 on the young season after picking up an opening night win over Lynn University on Monday.

WJU battled back from a 5-2 deficit in the first period, rattling off six straight goals in the second and third periods before a Brian Frank goal sealed the game for the Cardinals, 9-6.

"It was a huge, character building win for us tonight" said WJU head coach Kevin Dugan. "We got off to a slow start; it was only our third outing of the season and their 5th, and it showed. Once we settled into our game plan, we were able to play well, so we're very happy."

Sophomore Bryce Brochu led the Cards with three goals and two assists to his name. Brian Frank and Landon DelPrince added a pair of goals each, while Sean Wright and Tyler Johnson each added a goal to round out the scoring.

Joe Amsler spent all 60 minutes in goal for the Cardinals, picking up the win with seven saves while only allowing 6 shots past. The WJU defense kept Saint Leo to just 26 shots on the night overall, while the Cardinals fired off 37.

WJU will continue their spring break trip to Florida when they take on Florida Tech at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
