Marquette Drops Home Opener to Duquesne

MILWAUKEE Despite a late rally to pull within three goals late, Marquette University dropped its home opener to Duquesne, 14-10, on Friday afternoon at Valley Fields.

Freshman attack Amanda Bochniak and sophomore midfielder Kenzie Brown each posted three goals for the Golden Eagles (2-3), while Bochniak added a pair of assists.

Senior midfielder Caitlin Prince contributed six goals in the win for the Dukes (2-1), who posted a slim 24-23 advantage in shots. Duquesne also received three goals and an assist from junior Amanda Kidder. Kidder picked up eight of the Dukes' 24 ground balls on the afternoon, while MU managed just 14 as a team.

Duquesne scored the game's first three goals and took an 8-1 lead with 8:50 remaining in the first half on Prince's fourth marker. Brown closed out the half with a pair of goals for Marquette, which trailed 8-3 at halftime.

Each team traded goals to begin the second half and the Dukes led 13-6 on Kidder's third goal before MU mounted its comeback. Brown scored her third of the game with 16:04 remaining in regulation and Marquette scored the next three goals to pull within three, 13-10.

MU was held off the scoreboard for the final 9:25 of the game and Prince posted her sixth goal with 2:57 left to provide the final goal differential.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 12 against Coastal Carolina at Valley Fields. The game, which was originally scheduled to be played at 6:00 p.m., will now take place one hour earlier at 5:00 p.m. CT.
