Wittenberg Closes Season with 16-3 Win over W&J

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Cory Windle scored a career-high eight goals and added two assists to help Wittenberg end its regular season with a 16-3 victory over Washington & Jefferson in men's lacrosse action on Tuesday evening.

The Tigers (6-7) opened a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes as Windle set up Jon Van Vranken for a goal 2:45 into the contest and then netted his first goal at the 6:31 mark.

W&J freshman attacker Sean Jasionowski (Bear, Del./Pennington) scored off an assist from sophomore attacker Tim Huckestein (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) to narrow the deficit to 2-1 five minutes later, but Sam Henderson scored 14 seconds before the first quarter ended for a 3-1 Wittenberg advantage.

Henderson and Windle notched goals in the first two minutes of the second quarter, but freshman attacker Devin O'Malley (Forestdale, Mass./Williston-N. Hampton) scored with nine minutes left in the half to bring W&J to within 5-2. However, the Tigers poured in the next 10 goals over a 25-minute span to run away with the victory.

The Tigers used a 52-17 shot advantage and scored on 7-of-8 extra-man opportunities. Wittenberg also claimed 13-of-19 face-offs.

Van Vranken and Ross Holland both finished with two goals for the Tigers, while Travis Moore racked up three points with one goal and two assists. Pat Garlock played the first 45 minutes in goal and amassed six saves.

Freshman midfielder Kevin Hall (Medfield, Mass./Williston-N. Hampton) scored the only other W&J goal midway through the fourth period. Sophomore Spooky Reid (Franklin, Tenn./University School of Nashville) allowed 11 goals and notched 12 saves in 38 minutes of action.
