Lourdes Debuts with Victory over Oakland

Lourdes University's men's lacrosse team took the field for the first time in program history on Friday evening, and never trailed throughout the entire contest, defeating Oakland 14-6 at Detroit Country Day School in Beverly Hills, Mich.

Danny Bichsel (Westerville, Ohio/North H.S.) scored six times for the Gray Wolves while Jared Yoshino (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) added five goals as the Gray Wolves outshot the Golden Grizzlies 52-22 on the evening.

Bichsel scored the first goal in program history just 3:35 into the opening quarter before Yoshino made it 2-0 Gray Wolves less than three minutes later, scoring with a man advantage. Bichsel added three more goals to make it 5-0 Lourdes before Oakland found the scoreboard. The Golden Grizzlies scored four straight times to close to within one, but two more goals by Yoshino before halftime put Lourdes on top 7-4 at the break.

It took Yoshino just 17 seconds into the third quarter before he notched his fourth goal of the game and Bischsel made it 9-4 less than 30 seconds later. Lourdes took a 10-5 lead into the final quarter.

Andrew DiMartini (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) tallied his first collegiate goal early in the final stanza and Dylan Gill (Holland, Ohio/Saint Francis H.S.) added two late tallies, helping the Gray Wolves celebrate success on opening night.

Yoshino and Bichsel each tallied seven points and eight shots on goal on the night, with Bichsel leading the team with 18 shot attempts.

Connor Mishler (Lambertville, Mich./Saint John's H.S.) went the majority of the way in goal, making a pair of saves while Joe Hollinger (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) made two stops in his 7:20 of work.

Alexander Timmis led Oakland (0-2) with three goals on the evening while Daniel Birkett made 11 saves in goal for the Golden Grizzlies.

Lourdes (1-0) will return to action on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Conway, S.C. to face Coastal Carolina. The opening faceoff will take place at 5:00 p.m.
