No. 1 Salisbury Just Gets Past No. 19 Washington & Lee

The Generals put themselves right back in the game by going on a 3-0 run, capped by a goal from junior midfielder Sammy Yates (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) at the 8:08 mark to pull within two goals (11-9).

The Sea Gulls' defense did not allow W&L to get any shots off and forced two turnovers in the final 5:37 to hold on to the 11-9 victory.

Junior Cara Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) played the full 60 minutes in goal for the Blue and White, finishing with one save. Senior Ashton Wheatley spent the entire game in the net for the Sea Gulls and recorded seven saves.

For the game, Klein led the Generals with four goals, while Witter added two of her own. Yates, along with first-years Sara Holland (Houston, Texas/M.B. Lamar) and Hayley Soutter (McLean, Va./Langley) each tallied one goal. Senior Leanne Stone and first-year Olivia Sisson (Great Falls, Va./Langley) led the defensive third with two ground balls and one caused turnover.

Haker and junior Shelby Nemecek paced Salisbury with three goals apiece, while Duranti tallied two goals. Blondino, along with junior midfielders Bethany Bear and Kylie Hanley chipped in one goal each. Senior Shannon Carta led the defense with four ground balls and one caused turnover.

The Generals will be back in action on Saturday when they host Lynchburg for a 1:00 pm contest.
