Chestnut Hill Loses Battle of the Griffins to Seton Hill

Greensburg, Pa. - (3/8/2014) In the Battle of the Griffins, sophomore midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) led Chestnut Hill in a 21-6 loss to Seton Hill (SHU) with two goals, an assist, and three ground balls. SHU scored the game's first five goals and led 12-4 at halftime before outscoring the Griffins 9-2 in the second half.

SHU (3-0) wasted little time taking the advantage as they scored the game's first goal at 24:30, 1-0, and owned a 5-0 lead less than ten minutes after the opening draw (20:10). Sophomore midfielder Courtney Weidner (Philadelphia, Pa.) interrupted the home run with Chestnut Hill College's (0-3) first goal coming at 18:12, 5-1.

Freshman midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) struck just 21 second later (17:51), 5-2, but the rally was short-lived with SHU scoring four consecutive goals, 9-2, in a 7-2 run to halftime, 12-4. The second half did not go any better as SHU only allowed Keimig locate freshman midfielder Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) at 18:40, 14-5, and score herself at 3:18, 20-6, in a 9-2 run to the final horn.

Eight SHU Griffins recorded at least two points in their highly offensive performance. Sophomore attack Emily Fagan (Calgary, Alberta) recorded five of their goals, but senior attack Morgan Cain (Fairmont, W.V) led them in points with six on three goals and three assists. Senior midfielder Rachel Hilbert (Perkiomenville, Pa.) offered a goal, an assist, seven ground balls, six draws, and four caused turnovers while freshman goalkeeper Melanie Morget (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made three saves in the win (3-0).

Weidner, Sanders, senior attack Kelly Campbell (Hatboro, Pa.), and freshman midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) each tallied a goal in support of Keimig's team-leading effort. O'Leary paired her goal with team-highs in ground balls (5) and draw controls (6). Freshman goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) made 11 saves in the loss (0-3).

The women's lacrosse team returns home to open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Tuesday, March 11, when they host Philadelphia University in a 7:00 p.m. match.
