Oberlin Wins at Otterbein for McCandlish's First Win

Westerville, Ohio Oberlin had no trouble taking down Otterbein, 10-3, in what was the first collegiate win for head coach Lynda McCandlish.

Five different Yeowomen accounted for the 10 scores with sophomore Grace Barlow leading the way with four goals. Kate Hanick and Suzanna Doak each added a pair in the win.

Oberlin controlled the run of play throughout the match, out-shooting Otterbein 29-14 while winning the ground ball battle 33-21.

Barlow cashed in the first two goals of the game with Doak assisting on the second. The Cardinals would make it a 2-1 game at the 18:36 mark of the opening half, but the Yeowomen would take a 4-1 lead into the intermission after finishes from Hanick and first-year Hannah Heinke-Green. Barlow contributed her first of two assists on the Hanick score.

Otterbein netted the first goal of the second half, but the Yeowomen responded with three straight unassisted scores one from Barlow and two from Doak. A Maria Blaszczyk goal at the 13:19 mark cut the Oberlin lead to 7-3, but the Yeowomen would go on to add three more scores to leave no doubt in the eventual outcome.

The final Oberlin score came courtesy of Sara Phister. In addition to scoring her first collegiate goal, the rookie from Phoenix, Arizona, led the Yeowomen with four draw controls and tied Sarah Andrews with a team-high five ground balls.

First-year Alexa L'Insalata played all 60 minutes in the cage and turned away nine shots.

The Yeowomen have a short turnaround, as they will host Lourdes University on Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the All Pro Athletic Center in nearby Lorain, Ohio.
