Wesley Blows Past the Centenary Cyclones

DOVER, Del Aimee LeClair guided her team to a 14-9 win over Centenary (N.J.) in her first appearance at Scott D. Miller Stadium as head coach for the Wolverines. LeClair's Wolverines advance to 2-0 on the season while the Centenary Cyclones fall to 0-2.

Rylee Gould scored the first goal just two minutes into the match followed 20 seconds later by Alexandra Barbieri. Gould assisted Kirsten Ward for the third goal of the game. The Wolverines would go on to score four more goals in the first half. The Cyclones would only notch three goals in the half to put the Wolverines ahead by what would seem like an insurmountable lead.

Centenary did not give up on the game. They scored six more goals in the second half but Wesley would match their first half total of seven to maintain their lead in the game.

Rylee Gould, Jorden Lutz, and Kirsten Ward each tallied a hat trick in the home opener. Gould helped out with three hat tricks and Lutz brought in four ground balls and 4 draw controls. Kaitlin Brennan brought in a game high nine draw controls and three ground balls. Brennan also knocked two goals in for the Wolverines.

Making her first career start, Samantha Brannigan stopped ten shots and allowed nine goals in 60 minutes of action.

Centenary started Abby Voelkner scored a game high five goals but it was not enough to lead her team to a win.

The Wolverines return to action on Tuesday, March 11 at 3:00 pm to Ferrum, Virginia where they will face Ferrum.

DOVER, Del. - Freshman Abby Voelkner (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) fired in a game-high five goals, but it was not enough as Centenary was defeated by Wesley 14-9 on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolverines scored five of the game's first six goals before back-to-back scores from sophomores Carlie Schmitt (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) and Devin Sutko (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) brought Centenary within 5-3.

The Cyclones trailed 7-3 at the break and the Wolverines tacked on three more goals during the opening four minutes of the second half for a seven-goal advantage.

Centenary battled back as Voelkner scored twice and freshman Priscilla Ortiz (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) found the back of the net to make the Cyclones' deficit four.

Voelkner netted her third of five goals during the second half at the 15:30 mark, bringing Centenary within four once again; however the Cyclones would not get any closer.

Ortiz scored twice, while Sutko added a pair of assists and Schmitt dished out one helper. Freshman goalkeeper Andrea Wisniewski (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) made five saves in net.
